Aston Martin has an illustrious racing history dating back to 1912 when Lionel Martin had begun by selling and
servicing Singers from a garage in Chelsea, he then decided to build a
car of his own and linked his surname with that of a famous hillclimb,
Aston Hill near Aylesbury, to form ‘Aston-Martin’. All through Aston Martin's chequered history, the major shareholders of Aston Martin from Lionel Martin to Dr Ulrich Bez, CEO of Aston Martin and now David Richards of Aston Martin Racing, have all realised the benefits, both in terms of development and publicity, of racing on the worlds major circuits.
